Information officers report challenges in accessing timely information
KATHMANDU: During a recent meeting at the District Administration Office in Chitwan, information officers from various local governments and government offices expressed frustration over their lack of access to timely information. Bharatpur Metropolitan City's Information Officer, Menuka Pandit, highlighted the issue of being unable to promptly provide information to media personnel due to delays in receiving updates from higher authorities. Similarly, Madi Municipality's Information Officer, Praveen Bhandari, pointed out the challenges faced in obtaining information from bodies with elected representatives.
Kalika Municipality's Information Officer, Prakash Chandra Poudel, reported that they often learn about updates only after they are made public through media channels and social media. Indramani Bhandari, an information officer at the Public Health Office, mentioned the difficulty of managing information duties alongside other responsibilities of their office.
In response, Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav advised that information officers should seek updates from relevant officials based on their office's needs and maintain a complaint box to manage issues. Meanwhile, journalists in attendance voiced concerns about the difficulty of obtaining information from government agencies.
