Government rescues 28 Nepalis held hostage in India
KATHMANDU: The government of Nepal has stepped up its attempts to free and repatriate Nepali nationals who were being kept captive in India. These people were made to work in dangerous conditions for no pay after being promised high salaries for building roads in Kashmir. In this rescue effort, the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens has assumed leadership.
According to Ministry Secretary Dinesh Bhattarai, among those detained were seven men, aged between 24 and 60, from the Dhanusha area and twenty-one from the Siraha district. The Ministry has effectively rescued these people and brought them to Janakpur in cooperation with the Nepali Embassy in India and the Indian NGO "KIN India."
The Ministry's ongoing dedication to this issue is evidence of its efforts to assist victims of forced labor and human trafficking. Reunited with their family in Dhanusha, the rescued persons were facilitated by the District Committee for Human Trafficking and Transportation Control. Minister Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi, Secretary Bhattarai, and Joint Secretary Abha Shrestha Karn were present during the function.
This program demonstrates how committed the government is to safeguarding its people and combating issues of human trafficking, making certain that individuals impacted receive the assistance and defense they require.
