RPP Pays Rs 100,000 Fine for Damaging Public Property During Former King’s Welcome
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has paid a Rs 100,000 fine to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City for violating municipal regulations during a demonstration held to welcome former King Gyanendra Shah. The fine was paid by the party’s spokesperson, Gyanendra Shahi, who posted a photo of the payment on social media to show the party’s acceptance of the penalty.
Shahi stated that the RPP believes in good governance and adhering to the rule of law. He also expressed that while the party accepts the fine, it acknowledges the large number of supporters who gathered to welcome the former king, emphasizing that those who participated likely encountered difficulties, such as stepping on something while walking.
The fine was imposed by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City for littering and causing damage to railings during the demonstration. Despite other monarchist groups, including RPP Nepal and Durga Prasai’s faction, also participating in the event, the fine was specifically levied against the Rastriya Prajatantra Party led by Rajendra Lingden.
Shahi comments are proof that the party is ready to take responsibility for what occurred during the incident. The fine was noticed while demonstrating; it was understood to be as a result of breaking municipal law.
Despite the controversy surrounding the incident and its aftermath, Shahi's remarks and the payment represent the RPP's commitment to upholding the law.
