NEPSE hits new high as index surges by 2.54%, turnover reaches Rs.15 billion
KATHMANDU: On Sunday, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a significant rise, climbing by 61.61 points or 2.54% to reach 2,485.94 points, the highest level in recent years. The daily turnover was strong, totaling Rs 15 billion with 41,195,534 shares of 315 companies traded in 177,467 transactions, reflecting the high turnover seen on Thursday.
Other indices also saw gains, with the float index for actively traded shares climbing by 2.60% and the sensitive index for class 'A' equities rising by 3.10%, mirroring the increase in the benchmark index. With a 6.80% rise, the trading sector led the market, followed by lodging and tourism (4.21%), banking (3.86%), and other sectors (3.38%). The market overall showed favorable movement.
181 firms had a gain in their share values among individual stocks, while 56 witnessed a fall and five saw no change. Notable gains were observed in United Modi Hydropower Ltd. (UMHL) and Samata Gharelu Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (SAMATA), both up by 10%. Conversely, Sikles Hydropower Limited (SIKLES) experienced a 10% drop. The total market capitalization reached Rs 3.944 trillion.
