Two arrested in connection with murder of Mahottari Ward Chairperson Mukesh Yadav
KATHMANDU: Two people have been taken into custody by the Mahottari District Police Office (DPO) in relation to the death of Ramgopalpur Municipality-2 ward chair Mukesh Yadav. Sanjeev Jha and Dilip Mandal, the suspects, were in custody on Tuesday night in Bardibas.
The arrests were confirmed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Santu Lal Prasad Jaiswar, who said that both people are residents of Mahottari's Aurahi Rural Municipality-7. Four more days have been added to their custody by the Mahottari District Court in order to facilitate additional investigation into the murder case.
On August 25, after spending the evening with friends in Bardibas, Mukesh Yadav was reported missing. He was said to have left for home, but the next morning his body was found on the side of the road, his motorcycle laying next to it.
Instead of thinking he was in a simple motorbike accident, Yadav's family suspects foul play. They feel he was murdered. The circumstances surrounding his death have led to law authorities now monitoring him more closely.
The late Mukesh Yadav was a well-known politician in the community, having been victorious in the most recent local elections to become the ward chair of the Maoist Center.
As part of their ongoing investigations, the police are still looking for more information about the incident and the involvement of the people who were arrested.
