KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Siddhartha Tated, the secretary of Kantipur Multipurpose Cooperative in Rajbiraj, on embezzlement charges. Tated was taken into custody on Thursday following a complaint lodged by victims of the cooperative.

The complaint, filed on August 4, 2023, by a group of 45 depositors at the District Police Office Saptari, alleged that the cooperative failed to return their deposits. The complaint named seven officials, all of whom were previously at large. Tated, who also serves as a ward member of Rajbiraj Municipality-3, is accused of being involved in the embezzlement of millions of rupees.

The arrest came after a court issued a warrant, and Tated's remand will be extended for further investigation on Friday.
