Man arrested for false claims as eyewitness in Nirmala Pant murder case
KATHMANDU: Police have detained Navraj Aryal, a guy who fabricated an eyewitness narrative in the Nirmala Pant murder case. Aryal, a Gorkha inhabitant, was taken into custody by a Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) squad. Superintendent of Police (SP) Hobindra Bogati confirmed the arrest and stated that Aryal was arrested for spreading false information. Police are currently questioning him on the false information he provided in a television interview.
Aryal identified himself in the interview as a driver for the Department of Drinking Water and stated that he was present when Nirmala Pant was raped at Kanchanpur. He added that he could reveal the identities of the criminals if he were granted official protection. SP Bogati stressed, however, that Aryal's assertions were completely untrue and that the police were handling them as misinformation.
Additionally, the journalist who aired Aryal's interview was disciplined by the CIB. The CIB invited the television show's host, Rishi Dhamala, to take part in the interrogation. To find out why the misleading information was broadcast and whether there was a conscious effort to mislead the public, authorities are looking into the situation.
The arrest and investigation came after Aryal's interview, which garnered significant attention because he claimed to have firsthand knowledge of the circumstances. However, police have firmly refuted the truth of his accusations, emphasizing that they have no evidence to support his eyewitness accounts.
Authorities are working to make sure that false information doesn't make the case of Nirmala Pant's untimely death any more complicated as the inquiry goes on. The fact that Aryal was detained is a warning against making untrue statements about well-known cases.
