81-year-old man arrested for defrauding Rs 5.8 million in Lalitpur
KATHMANDU: An arrest has been made for Ram Prasad Paudyal, an 81-year-old resident of Mahalaxmi Municipality-2 in Lalitpur, who is suspected of embezzling about Rs 5.8 million. After Lokendra Narayan Shrestha filed a complaint accusing Paudyal of breaking banking regulations, the matter involving Paudyal was made public.
On December 1, 2020, the High Court Patan, with judges Lohit Chand Shah and Ishwor Raj Acharya in charge, rendered a decision in response to the allegations. The court ordered Paudyal to compensate Shrestha with Rs 232,840 and levied a fine of Rs 5.82 million. Paudyal also received a sentence of seven days in jail.
Paudyal borrowed Rs 5.82 million from Shrestha with the promise to pay it back within a month, which is when the legal issues started. Paudyal wrote two checks from his Sunrise Bank account, both of which bounced, in spite of Shrestha's persistent demands for reimbursement. Shrestha took legal action as a result of this.
After being captured at Jhamsikhel, Paudyal was taken to Nakkhu Jail in Lalitpur to fulfill his seven-day sentence. Paudyal can go to jail again if he doesn't pay the fine and reparation on time.
