3 arrested for attempting to smuggle gold through TIA
KATHMANDU: Police arrested three persons for attempting to smuggle gold through Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. Following their arrest, the suspects were spotted in an airport parking lot. They had 52 grams of gold in total, which included two bangles, one ring, and one hairpiece.
Shamser BK, 36, of Baglung Municipality-4 in Baglung, Num Bahadur Thapa Magar, 36, of Satyawati Rural Municipality-2 in Gulmi, and Sahev Dewan, 43, of Jeetpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-24 in Bara, have all been detained. Shamsher and Num Bahadur, who arrived via Himalayan Airlines, were each paid Rs 9,000 to smuggle the gold through customs. Sahev was apprehended while collecting the gold from them in the international arrivals parking area.
The police detained all three individuals during the exchange and handed them over to the Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office for further investigation.
