25-year-old arrested at TIA for smuggling gold
KATHMANDU: Sanjay Tamang, 25, of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-12, Chitwan, was arrested by police at Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday morning for trying to smuggle gold without declaring it to customs.
A ring and a chunk of gold metal totaling around 61 grams were confiscated by the authorities; they were both unlawfully imported into the nation.
Tamang had arrived in Kathmandu from Doha aboard an Air India flight and was caught carrying gold at the airport's international arrival tunnel gate.
After his detention, the police turned Tamang over to the Gauchar-based Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office for additional examination.
Additional legal steps will be taken in accordance with the investigation's results, and the police are presently working on the matter.
