2 people arrested with banned Indian currency in Biratnagar
KATHMANDU: The Armed Police Force (APF) have arrested two individuals in Biratnagar, one Indian and the other from Nepal for having Rs 400,000 in illegal Indian currency. Raunak Agrawal 24 of Biratnagar Municipality was arrested in ward 17 of Biratnagar with IRs 317,000. He traveled from Jogbani, India by motorbike (Pra 1-02-051 Pa 1939) and was caught in regular inspection with 400 Rs 500 banned currency.
Similarly, Gautam Kumar Kedia, 36, a resident of Sonapatti-23, Bhagalpur, India, was arrested in Biratnagar-15 while entering Nepal on foot from Jogbani. He was carrying Rs 117,444 in banned Indian currency, including notes of various denominations and Indian coins.
The APF suspects that the seized money could be linked to illegal hundi operations. Both Agrawal and Kedia have been handed over to the Revenue Investigation Office in Itahari for further investigation and legal action. It's important to note that Indian currency notes above Rs 500 are prohibited in Nepal.
