Mount Everest expedition halted by adverse weather, search continues for missing climbers
KATHMANDU: For the past two days, adverse weather conditions have hampered expeditions to Mount Everest, the world's tallest peak. Department of Tourism Director Rakesh Gurung stated that no climbers have been able to reach the summit since Tuesday due to unfavorable weather, particularly in the upper part of camp IV.
The search for two missing Mongolian climbers continues, with two Sherpa guides dispatched by ATK Expedition Pvt Ltd to locate and rescue them. Usukhjargal Tsedendamba, 53, and Purevsuren Lkhagvajav, 31, went missing while attempting to scale Mount Everest on May 13, setting off from camp IV at 8:45 AM.
Despite the challenges posed by the weather and the ongoing search operation, the climbing season has seen more than 70 climbers successfully summit Mount Everest since it began on May 10. Notably, Kami Rita Sherpa has broken his own record by climbing the peak 28 times in this season alone. A total of 414 mountaineers, including 75 women and 339 men from 41 expedition groups, have obtained permission to climb Mount Everest during this season.
