Gemini can now detect when a PDF appears on your phone's screen
The latest update to the Files by Google app introduces a new feature powered by Gemini, enabling users to interact with PDFs in a smarter way. As reported by Android Police, users with a Gemini Advanced subscription can now summon Gemini to ask questions about the content of a PDF directly within the app.
Mishaal Rahman shared on Friday that this feature is gradually rolling out to users. This functionality works similarly to how you might use ChatGPT to analyze a document, allowing you to ask detailed questions about the file's content. Google initially revealed this context-aware feature at its I/O developer conference in May.
In addition to PDFs, Gemini’s context-aware abilities extend to other areas, such as providing insights about web pages and YouTube videos. For apps or file types that don’t yet support Gemini’s advanced context-aware features, the assistant offers an alternative: the "Ask about this screen" option. When selected, Gemini takes a screenshot of your screen and uses it to answer related questions.
This update marks another step in Google's efforts to integrate AI-powered tools into its ecosystem, providing users with more interactive and intuitive ways to engage with their files and content.
