Dairy farmers protest over unpaid milk payments, leading to arrests
KATHMANDU: Dairy farmers took to the streets on Wednesday, staging a protest to demand the payment of overdue funds for the milk they supplied. They gathered outside the central office of the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC), pressing for the immediate settlement of their outstanding payments. These farmers have been persistently seeking payment from both the state-run DDC and private dairy companies.
In an attempt to disperse the protesting farmers, police arrested 34 individuals involved in the demonstration. Despite previous agreements aimed at addressing their grievances, including issues related to payments, farmers stated that these agreements have yet to be implemented. They remain adamant in their demand for fair compensation for their milk supply.
