Landslide strikes passenger bus Jay Prithvi Highway
KATHMANDU: A passenger bus traveling from Bajhang to Kathmandu narrowly escaped disaster when it was hit by a landslide at Bagadgaon along the Jay Prithvi Highway on Friday. The landslide, which struck the road while the bus was in motion, caused the rear of the vehicle to be pushed toward a hillside, but the bus did not overturn, avoiding a major accident.
This incident occurred shortly after a tragic landslide event last Friday in Bharatpur-29 Simaltal, where two buses were swept away and are still missing. During the monsoon season, there is an increased risk of landslides, particularly in hilly and far-western mountainous locations.
Road safety in these areas is seriously threatened by the prolonged monsoon rains, which have raised the probability of landslides.
