WhatsApp launches a new Events feature for group discussions. What is it, and how does it function?
Meta-owned personal messaging platform WhatsApp is now rolling out a new events feature that may help simplify the process of organizing meetings, parties, and other events directly through group chats.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the feature is rolling out starting with the WhatsApp beta version of Android 2.24.9.20 update and will soon be available to other users as part of a wider release. It is worth noting that previously the event feature was limited to social group chats, but WhatsApp has now extended the functionality to regular group chats with the latest update.
How does WhatsApp's new events feature work?
The new events feature will allow users to create events in group chats by entering event details such as name, description, date, location, details about voice or video calls, etc. Once an event is created, group members will be able to accept or decline the invitation, and the creator can update event details as needed. The report states that like everything else on WhatsApp, group chat events will be private and only participants in the conversation will have access to event details.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also reportedly planning to add more features in the future, including the ability to add event reminders and set a cover photo. In other WhatsApp-related news, Meta has finally started rolling out its Meta AI assistant directly to Indian users via WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Messenger.
Meta AI will be available in searches on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. Additionally, users can get insights from Meta AI while scrolling through posts in the Facebook app. The AI assistant also has instant search results from Microsoft and Google, so it can be called up in a group chat for instant insights, such as planning a trip or finding the least crowded route to a destination.
