TikTok, owned by ByteDance, investigates local service markets in Indonesia and Thailand
TikTok, the popular global short-video platform owned by ByteDance, is looking to make a breakthrough in the local services sector in Southeast Asia, initially allowing users in Indonesia and Thailand to receive restaurant, flight and hotel coupons via links in their feeds.
Restaurants and merchants in both countries are being encouraged to join the social media platform's "TikTok Local Services," according to a report by Chinese media 36Kr. TikTok is also planning to expand into the leisure category, allowing users to receive flight and hotel coupons offered by third-party service providers, according to an Indonesia-based source, who asked not to be identified as the initiative has not yet been made public.
