Flipboard users may now follow anybody in the fediverse, even those on Threads
Instagram Threads users gain new audiences. On Tuesday, social magazine app Flipboard took another step to integrate with ActivityPub, the decentralized social networking protocol that powers the likes of Mastodon, PixelFed, PeerTube and more. Starting Tuesday, Flipboard users can follow any common account, which means social networks involved in social networks involved in interconnected servers called federal. In addition to Mastodon's account and other accounts, this also includes a thread account. With an update that deepens Flipboard's connection to ActivityPub's social graph, any Flipboard user can follow user profiles from any other federated service. If their Flipboard account is also connected, they can interact with those users' posts and participate in conversations. However, the flipboards user base has not yet been published. The use was originally established in 2010. This is the experience of social magazine. After Flipboard lost its ability to integrate with X, formerly Twitter, following API changes at Elon Musk's company, Flipboard joined fediverse with Mastodon's integration and said it would work to become a fully federated app even over time by integrating with the ActivityPub protocol. .
Since then, the company has taken steps to bring its content and user profiles into the world of the Federation. Today, Flipboard brings together 700 curators and publishers with 15,000 titles. The majority of these accounts are said to be in the US, but the company is currently testing around a dozen accounts in the UK and Germany. The Flipboard app supports full fediverso integration, but the company has yet to enable federation for all users as it is a gradual process. We're told the goal is to make federation an option for users later this year, similar to how Threads added a "fediverse share" option in June. When federation is enabled, people will be able to not only share to the fediverse but also see and engage with conversations around their Flipboard posts that are taking place in the fediverse.
What makes up the fediverse is also changing. After Elon Musk bought Twitter, the idea of a decentralized social platform - one that could not be purchased by billionaires and supported responsibility - increased popularity. As Meta ActivePub's reception to the latest app "Threads" began to move. Due to the increasing interest in new social networks, Fedector, WordPress blog can also get the ActivePubbub plug -in at the parent company Automattic. At the same time, the Ghost of the news and communication platform is a substitute competitor and has recently started working in the federal. Mozilla and Medium also set up their own Mastodon servers, called instances.
With Flipboard's Tuesday update, people can find and follow others in the Federation universe across three areas of its app: Search, Explore and Community. In search results, Flipboard will show combined account and profile results in a new section called "Fediverse Accounts." Editors' picks can also be found under Fediverse in the app's Explore tab, with new account selections revealed every week in the Community section. Fediverse activity will also appear in the Flipboard notification panel, allowing people to participate and follow others in Fediverse directly from notifications. For Flipboard users, this means they can now follow Threads and Mastodon user profiles on Flipboard, including high-profile users like President Joe Biden (POTUS) and former President Barack Obama on Threads, as well as diverse content creators like Mark Brownlee and journalists . such as Kara Swisher.
