Traffic and pedestrian activity surge in Kathmandu as Dashain celebrations conclude
KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley has seen a steady increase in both pedestrian activity and vehicle traffic since the conclusion of the Dashain (Bijaya Dashami) celebration.
Since October 10, the seventh day of the Dashain festival, one of Nepal's biggest yearly events, traffic had drastically decreased.
Many people are traveling to see family members in order to receive the traditional elder blessings of jamara and tika, which is why there is an increase in both vehicle traffic and pedestrian activity, according to Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Adhikari, spokesperson for the District Police Range in Kathmandu.
In comparison to the previous days of the festival, SP Adhikari said that traffic in Kathmandu has increased considerably today.
The head of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police Bharat Bahadur Bohara, stated that there were no significant traffic accidents during the Dashain festival, stating that this allowed people to enjoy the festival without worrying about their safety.
People who had left Kathmandu to celebrate the holiday in their hometowns are now returning to the capital, which is another factor contributing to the increase in traffic and pedestrian activity.
