Rescue operations ongoing on Tribhuvan Highway as 30 bodies recovered from landslide debris
KATHMANDU: Rescue efforts are still on along the Tribhuvan Highway, where many landslides have buried cars and resulted in the recovery of thirty bodies thus far. Over the course of the weekend, efforts to recover the deceased got underway. On Saturday, 14 bodies were removed from the debris, and on Sunday, another 16 were found.
Dhading district police officer Gautam KC said that this morning, a microbus that was heading from Chitwan to Kathmandu was found buried in the avalanche. This car, registered Ba 3 Ja 1345, contained thirteen bodies that the rescuers were able to recover. There were four females and nine males among the dead.
In addition to the microbus, another bus with the registration number Na 4 Kha 2270, traveling from Gorakha to Kathmandu, was also found buried at the same location. Four bodies have been retrieved from this bus, as confirmed by Pralhad Silwal, an information officer at the Dhading district police office.
A microbus that was buried while traveling from Butwal to Kathmandu contained the first fourteen bodies that were found. With vehicles in bits and victims strewn beneath the wreckage, the disaster's scope has made recovery operations more difficult.
It has been difficult for rescue crews to determine which bodies belong to which vehicles because of the terrible conditions at the scene. Information officer Silwal observed that identifying the victims has been made more difficult by the debris issue.
Authorities are still working to find any more victims and support the families impacted by this awful incident while the search and recovery activities go on.
