Home Minister urges swift relief and compensation for flood and landslide victims in Lalitpur
KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has ordered the Lalitpur District Security Committee and the District Administration Office to expeditiously submit the list of qualified recipients for the government's post-disaster assistance and recompense. He emphasized that aid would be sent by the government to everyone impacted by the recent landslides and floods within three days of the incident.
The Minister stressed the gravity of the crisis the government is taking seriously while touring the Godavari, Lalitpur, disaster-affected areas. He exhorted all pertinent authorities to evaluate the damage and attend to the needs of individuals affected by the calamities as soon as possible.
Lekhak met with the District Security Committee and received details regarding the physical damages sustained during the disasters, along with an update on the ongoing relief and rescue operations. His top priority was ensuring that the affected areas received the aid and supplies they required as quickly as possible.
The Home Minister also visited Anandwan Hospital in Lele, which had been affected by a landslide that tragically resulted in the death of a hospital research technical officer, Bibek Singh. Singh had only been with the facility for 32 days before the disaster occurred.
The Chief District Officer of Lalitpur, Tulasi Bahadur Shrestha, informed the Minister that the bereaved relatives had already been paid Rs 200,000 in cash. This financial support is intended to alleviate the pain of those who lost loved ones in the catastrophe.
Several local officials were present when Home Minister Lekhak visited, including Rhishi Dev Phuyal, the Chief of the District Coordination Committee Lalitpur, and Min Krishna Maharjan, the Minister for Youth and Sports in Bagmati Province. Their presence serves as a reminder of the teamwork involved in addressing the disaster's consequences.
The Minister's orders demonstrate the government's proactive approach to disaster relief, which aims to guarantee that those impacted by the tragedy receive both short-term assistance and long-term help in reconstructing their lives.
