Clash erupts in Banke District as police attempt to arrest runaway convict
KATHMANDU: In Duduwa rural municipality-6 of Banke district, a clash erupted between locals and police when the latter attempted to arrest an absconding convict. Superintendent of Police Tul Bahadur Karki reported that police fired one warning shot into the air and two shots in self-defense after locals began throwing stones at them.
The clash resulted in injuries to a local woman and Senior Head Constable Madan Dangi, who sustained head injuries. Both injured individuals are receiving treatment at Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj. Police successfully apprehended Sonnam Singh Sardar, aged 65, from Duduwa-6, who had been evading arrest for six years due to his involvement in a robbery case.
Karki explained that earlier attempts to arrest Sardar had been thwarted by local assistance, leading police to resort to firing a shot at his leg to subdue and apprehend him. The tense situation in the area persisted for about an hour during the incident.
