Bagmati Province launches digital driver's license system via Nagarik App
KATHMANDU: Today, the Transport Management Office of Bagmati Province unveiled a new digital licensing system called the "Nagarik App" (Citizen App). Thanks to this innovation, drivers no longer need a physical card to get their licenses after completing their driving tests; instead, they may now access them digitally.
On social media, Prime Minister KP Oli announced this significant development and mentioned that successful candidates would receive their driver's licenses directly on their phones. A bigger effort to increase the effectiveness of driver service delivery includes this measure as one of its components.
The procedure of getting a license is streamlined because the digital license is available right away after passing the driving trial. Further streamlining contacts between drivers and authorities are options for digital payments related to traffic infractions.
Oli noted that the difficulties in acquiring printed driver's licenses, which have frequently been difficult, are successfully resolved by this new technique. Additionally, he underlined, it eliminates the inconvenience of paying fines for breaking traffic laws, making the entire procedure more user-friendly.
The Bagmati Province Transport Management Office will serve as the pilot program's initial operating location, while future plans call for expanding the services offered via the Citizen App. This indicates a dedication to using technology to enhance public services.
Prime Minister Oli emphasized the government's commitment to cutting wait times for individuals in need of a variety of services in his announcement. He said he hoped this move would help the public receive services more quickly.
The Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Transport of Bagmati Province noted at a program that the digital license distribution system was tested for five months prior to its official introduction. Any possible problems might be found and fixed thanks to this thorough testing step.
The ministry has given traffic police 104 cell phones in order to guarantee efficient digital license verification. Officers will be able to verify licenses while on the go thanks to this equipment, which will improve traffic enforcement and compliance.
It is anticipated that the long wait times for printed license cards will soon end with the introduction of this new digital system, giving drivers a more efficient experience.
All things considered, this project represents a positive step in Nepal's modernization of public services, especially concerning transportation management. It strives to raise the standard of service delivery in the industry generally and is in line with global digitization trends.
The launch of the digital licensing system represents an important milestone for Bagmati Province, setting a precedent for similar initiatives in other regions. The government’s commitment to leveraging technology for better service delivery reflects a growing recognition of the importance of innovation in public administration.
