KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning to people about the likelihood of severe heat in the Tarai area in the coming days. Meteorologists from the Meteorological Forecasting Division have urged everyone to remain vigilant and prepared as temperatures are expected to rise, particularly in the Tarai, Sudurpaschim, and Lumbini provinces. Meteorologist Binu Maharjan emphasized the likelihood of heat intensifying, advising necessary precautions due to the potential for hot winds and heatwaves until June 10.

Earlier, Nepalgunj recorded this year's highest temperature at 44.2 degrees Celsius, while Dhangadhi recorded 44.1 degrees Celsius. Presently, the weather is partly cloudy in hilly areas and clear elsewhere in the country. This weather pattern is attributed to the influence of local and westerly winds, alongside a low-pressure area forming around Bihar, India, as explained by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Later today, weather conditions are expected to remain partially cloudy in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, with clear skies prevailing elsewhere. There is a chance of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in some hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Koshi provinces. Additionally, there is a possibility of storms occurring in certain areas of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions to mitigate any potential risks associated with these weather conditions.
