India and Britain also appreciate the "substantial progress" in free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations and "look forward to reaching a mutually beneficial" trade agreement at an early stage, the Indian foreign ministry said. The two sides also agreed to deepen defense and security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond, as well as improve capabilities to deal with "growing threats from non-state actors," the Defense Ministry said.
Jaishankar and Lemmy also discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the situation in West Asia and the Red Sea, Commonwealth and UN Security Council issues, etc. A joint fact sheet on the Technology Security Initiative said the move aims to take the India-UK strategic partnership to the next level.
