Figure's latest humanoid robot uses OpenAI to conduct genuine speaking exchanges
Figure has unveiled its latest humanoid robot, the Figure 02. The system, whose name says it all, is the successor to the Figure 01 robot introduced in 2023. Teasr's initial video is similar to that we have seen from other humanoids, repeating the videos of the consumer electronics, not the raw demonstration of the robot in action.
This time, the most notable addition is a long -standing partnership with Openai, which helped if, in February, it contributed to collect $ 675 million in February, estimating South Bay at 2.6 billion dollars. The mainstream explosion of neural networks is attractive to the whole robot engineering industry, but humanoid developers are particularly interested in this technology. One of the major sales points of form factors is the ability to effectively use slots with human colleagues on the factory floor, as well as appropriate safety measures. Figure 02 is equipped with speakers and microphones, listening to the people in the workplace.
Models such as Chatgpt and Google Gemini have been evaluated for the abilities of natural languages and have opened new areas of intellectual assistants and cat robots. It is clear that these systems need to have such capabilities, allowing humans to give instructions to the robot while at the same time adding a level of transparency to what the robot is doing at all times. When dealing with humanoid robots, such communication is doubly important, since the systems are designed to be free to move around without safety cages. It's important not to lose sight of the fact that, despite their humanoid design, they're still large, heavy, and potentially dangerous moving pieces of metal. Combined with visual and proximity sensors, voice can be an important security tool. Of course, this isn't the only character in the film: late last year, Agility demonstrated its work using generative artificial intelligence to improve human-robot interaction. The use of neural networks was a key objective for the team of everyday robots from Google before it was closed. Elon Musk, on the other hand, is ostensibly in charge of Grok AI and Optimus - two projects which will undoubtedly be disputed as soon as possible. Meanwhile, OpenAI has been a bit risk-averse in this category: GPT was a backer of Norwegian company 1X prior to its investment in Figure. Over the past year, however, Figure has become much more buzzed about in the industry. Its aforementioned Series B also included other big tech names such as Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, and Intel Capital. This number has recently started drivers on BMW. In June, the company debuted in a previous version of the video, attached to a robot, and used a neural network to perform tasks independently on the ground.
The company notes that Robot 02 has already visited the automaker's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, for training and data collection. We're still in the very early stages of these partnerships. APPONICS, Aperture, and IA Sanctual declares the same pilots as automakers. Tessas work was an important goal of Optimus because it was Optimas. Boston Dynamics Master Hundai has its own opinion on the factory humanoid. Communications is part of what Figure calls a "complete hardware and software overhaul" from 01 to 02. The list also includes an integrated visual language model, upgraded CPU and GPU, and six RGB cameras combined with improved hands with 16 degrees of freedom. Hands are a hot topic in the world of humanoid robots, and there are differing opinions on how closely designers should follow their human counterparts.
There are a lot of things we can say about the glory and dexterity of our attached items, but the hands inspired by humans are criticized by their delicate and recognized for engineering. Some of them were dedicated to the use of human hands as the final effector of the system for that part. The company suggests a wider warehouse /factory floor, but there is no temporary scale for a wide range of drawing 02. "Figure robots will perform a wide range of tasks in commercial applications and in the near future, combining human dexterity and advanced AI," says the company.
