Google and Apple have agreed on a standard to notify users when they may be being tracked by unidentified Bluetooth devices.
This is part of an industry-standard called “Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers,” launching with iOS 17.5 and on Android 6.0+ devices. Users will see an alert if an unknown Bluetooth tracker moves with them. This initiative addresses the misuse of Bluetooth trackers like Apple’s AirTags for stalking. Bluetooth tag companies such as Chipolo, eufy, Jio, Motorola, and Pebblebee will support this standard. Apple and Google are working with the Internet Engineering Task Force to develop the technology further
