Usman Shinwari recommends resting Babar and Shaheen following the World Cup elimination
Test fast bowler Usman Khan Shinwari has recommended that veteran players, including as skipper Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, take some time off following Pakistan's underwhelming performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.
He thought that because the veteran players were playing all the time without taking a break, it was affecting their performance and preventing the younger players from receiving an opportunity.
Speaking with Geo News, Shinwari expressed his amazement that the seniors did not start as a substitute in any of the games against lower-tier countries like Ireland, Bangladesh, or Zimbabwe.
He claimed that Pakistani cricket was now limited to 15 players due to the senior players' attitude. He said, "(Because of them) the domestic cricketers are forced to emigrate," emphasizing the need to provide these players an opportunity to represent their country.
The cricket player, who is presently residing in the US, also thought that selection should no longer be based on performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
His remarks were mostly made in light of Pakistan's elimination from the Twenty20 World Cup as a result of their subpar play.
Pakistan's cricket squad was eliminated from the competition after failing to make it to the Super Eight. The squad is being criticized for doing poorly in the group round matches.
