Samad Fallah announces his retirement from cricket
On Saturday, Samad Fallah, who holds the record for most wickets taken by Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, declared his retirement from professional cricket.
Throughout his lengthy and remarkable career, the 39-year-old left-arm swing bowler grabbed 287 first-class wickets at an average of 28.48 in 78 matches, including 272 Ranji Trophy wickets.
In March 2021, Fallah played his final official encounter, a 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy match for Uttarakhand. He returned to Maharashtra and made himself available for selection in all three formats after relocating to Uttarakhand for the 2020–21 season, but he was unable to continue his career.
" Retirement is not an easy identity. But I had accepted it a couple of years back. Announcing it is formality from not playing any age group to taking a fiver on debut and becoming the highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy for my Maharashtra" Fallah posted on his instagram.
Fallah is the second-highest Ranji Trophy wicket-taker among left-arm fast bowlers at the time of his retirement, only surpassed by Jaydev Unadkat (316). Throughout his Ranji Trophy career, which spanned from 1941 to 1963, Hiralal Gaekwad claimed 278 wickets, although with a combination of seam and left-arm spin.
