'Emotional' Dale Steyn Reacts to South Africa's T20 World Cup Semi-Final Victory
Legendary cricketer Dale Steyn of South Africa became clearly emotional as he celebrated his country's first-ever appearance in an ICC competition final. The Proteas created a historic moment for their nation by defeating Afghanistan by nine wickets.
The South African cricket team, famed for being 'chokers,' has frequently been within striking distance of taking home an ICC trophy, only to lose in the quarter- or semifinal-finals.
But this time, South Africa reversed their fate and advanced to the 2024 T20 World Cup finals after defeating Afghanistan in a lopsided semi-final match earlier this week in Trinidad.
Afghan captain Rashid Khan won the toss and chose to bat first to begin the match. Still, the South African bowlers had different ideas and went on the rampage.Marco Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi both took three wickets. Meanwhile, South Africa bowled Afghanistan out for 56 runs in 11.5 overs, with Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje taking two wickets each.
It was also Afghanistan's lowest T20I score and the lowest total in a T20 World Cup semi-final. For Dale Steyn, seeing his country cross the finish line and compete in the first-ever ICC tournament final was nothing but the happiest moment.
On June 29, in Barbados, South Africa and India will play in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Notably, neither team has lost in the competition, and the stakes are high for any country.
