Record number of Nepalis seek foreign employment in a single month
KATHMANDU: In a single month, a significant number of Nepalis, totaling 72,861, departed the country for foreign employment, as reported by the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE). Between mid-May and mid-June, 64,886 men and 7,975 women left Nepal to work abroad, with Dhanusha district recording the highest number of departures at 4,248 individuals.
Out of those that departed, 24,812 returned for another time abroad, while 870 found work through government initiatives, notably in Korea. Additionally, 11,172 people traveled abroad using personal visas, and 36,007 went through recruitment agencies known locally as manpower companies.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerged as the top destination for Nepali workers, with 20,424 heading there in the month of Jestha alone.
