PM Dahal reaffirms commitment to BIMSTEC's objectives on its 27th anniversary
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' conveyed Nepal's steadfast dedication to fostering collective welfare among the member nations of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). On the occasion of BIMSTEC's 27th anniversary, Prime Minister Dahal reiterated Nepal's unwavering commitment to the fundamental objectives and principles outlined in the BIMSTEC Charter.
In extending warm regards to the governments and citizens of the member nations, Prime Minister Dahal emphasized the pivotal role of regional cooperation as a cornerstone for stability, economic advancement, and solidarity in the modern interconnected world. He acknowledged BIMSTEC's establishment as an intergovernmental forum, comprising amicable nations from South Asia and Southeast Asia, aimed at realizing the collective aspirations for a harmonious, prosperous, and well-integrated region through strengthened cooperation and partnerships.
Highlighting BIMSTEC's potential to uplift millions out of poverty and foster inclusive development, Prime Minister Dahal underscored the significance of connectivity enhancement, energy cooperation, trade facilitation, and sustainable development goal attainment within the region. He commended BIMSTEC's progress in institutional development, fostering synergies for mutual gains, and deepening collaboration across various sectors of cooperation.
Prime Minister Dahal reaffirmed Nepal's commitment to fostering people-to-people contacts and meaningful partnerships among member states to harness regional potentials for shared prosperity. Stressing the vital link between BIMSTEC's success and the peace, prosperity, and collective well-being of the region's populace, he emphasized the need for broader political commitments and consensus to bolster collaboration and achieve development that prioritizes the needs of the people.
Moreover, Prime Minister Dahal noted the significance of the BIMSTEC Charter coming into force since May, highlighting its role in providing added momentum towards realizing the forum's objectives. BIMSTEC, established on June 6, 1997, aims to drive rapid economic development among its member nations through collaborative projects spanning trade, investment, industry, technology, tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, and connectivity expansion, guided by the principles of equality and cooperation.
