PM Dahal highlights initiatives to combat brain drain
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', emphasized how important it is for colleges to address the problem of youth brain drain and foster environments that encourage young people to stay in Nepal. He voiced worry about the rising tendency of Nepali youngsters to look for chances overseas and emphasized the need to reverse this trend in his speech at the 39th meeting of the Purbanchal University Assembly.
Prachanda directed authorities to overhaul academic curricula and introduce programs that align with the aspirations and priorities of 21st-century students. He emphasized universities' role in facilitating practical employment opportunities for students, besides academic excellence.
The Prime Minister underscored the government's commitment to enhancing skilled human resource development across sectors. He pledged to resolve policy and legal challenges that hinder such efforts, emphasizing effective coordination among all levels of government.
In addition to focusing on human resource development, Prachanda called for universities to engage in research aimed at conserving Nepal's natural and cultural heritage. He emphasized the role of universities in bolstering the national economy through initiatives like tourism promotion and modernizing agriculture.
Prachanda urged Purbanchal University to conduct micro-research on local products such as brown cardamom, tea, Rudraksha, herbal plants, jute, and fruits. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving healthcare access by establishing a well-equipped hospital and medical college in Gothgaun, Morang, and exploring various funding options for these initiatives.
