Nepal welcomes over 1.14 million tourists in 2024
KATHMANDU: In 2024, Nepal saw over 1.14 million visitors, indicating a remarkable rebound in the travel and tourism sector. As of right present, the country has received 1.147 million visitors, demonstrating a robust post-pandemic recovery. The Nepal Tourism Board's head, Marinraj Lamichhane, said that the average number of visitors this year is 3,000 per day, a 14 percent increase over 2023.
This tourism revival marks a significant turning point, with foreign visitors in 2024 already exceeding the 1.197 million pre-pandemic figure in 2019. Tourism nearly ceased between 2020 and 2022 due to COVID-19 rules, therefore the surge in arrivals is very significant.
The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) indicates that Nepal's tourism has recovered to 96 percent of its pre-pandemic levels, highlighting the strong recovery. Nepal's ability to attract foreign visitors is proving resilient, and its comeback is a component of a broader global tourism trend.
The Nepal Premier League (NPL), the International Balloon Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, the World Buddhist Conference, and several fairs and exhibitions have all played a significant role in this growth. The increase in visitor arrivals brought about by these events has reenergized the industry.
For Nepal's tourism industry, a steady stream of tourists is positive since it shows that the country is recuperating and making significant strides toward regaining its pre-pandemic level of prosperity. This surge in tourism is expected to boost regional economies and bolster Nepal's reputation as a popular worldwide travel destination.
