NEA temporarily restores power to industries with outstanding dues
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority's (NEA) managing director, Kulman Ghising, has declared that the provision of electricity to businesses that owe money has been temporarily restored for a duration of three months. Ghising emphasized that businesses need to pay their bills on time in order to prevent a permanent power outage at a meeting with the Public Accounts Committee on Friday.
Ghising warned that failure to clear the dues within the three-month period would result in the reactivation of disconnection measures. Currently, the NEA reports a profit of Rs 46 billion, which would exceed Rs 60 billion if the outstanding Rs 21 billion were collected.
The NEA had previously disconnected the electricity supply to six industries due to disputes over dedicated feeders and trunk lines. Following a directive from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the NEA agreed to temporarily restore power to these industries, provided they clear their dues within the set period.
