Home Secretary urges district officers to prioritize monsoon disaster response
KATHMANDU: Home Secretary Eaknarayan Aryal has issued directives to chief district officers (CDOs) nationwide, urging them to prioritize coordinated disaster response efforts. In a virtual address on Thursday, Aryal instructed CDOs from all 77 districts, along with command post coordinators and members, to collaborate closely with local authorities in managing potential disasters during the monsoon season.
Highlighting the criticality of disaster preparedness and response plans, Aryal emphasized the necessity for officials to engage with provincial governments, the private sector, community organizations, and other stakeholders. He underscored the importance of mobilizing adequate human resources and equipment, particularly along major highways, to ensure effective response capabilities.
Aryal further stressed the need for key officials to remain stationed at their posts during disasters and called for enhancing the operational efficiency of the weather forecasting agency. He also emphasized the swift availability of resources, including helicopters, to facilitate immediate rescue and relief operations as part of the comprehensive disaster management strategy.
