Home Minister Directs Police Action Following Probe into Misuse of Cooperative Savings Funds
KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has instructed the Nepal Police Headquarters to take action based on a parliamentary probe committee's report concerning the misuse of cooperative savings funds. This directive follows a decision by the previous cabinet meeting to forward the report to the ministry for appropriate action.
The Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal will conduct further investigations based on the report. They plan to submit their findings to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, as well as to the relevant districts for additional inquiry.
One focal point of the investigation involves the Suryadarshan Cooperative, with Kaski Police currently conducting inquiries. The committee has recommended action against Rabi Lamichhane, the chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), alleging misappropriation of funds.
The committee found Lamichhane guilty as a shareholder and managing director of Gorkha Media, despite lacking documents that confirm his involvement in the flow of money from cooperatives during his tenure at Gorkha Media Network.
The parliamentary committee, led by UML MP Surya Thapa, submitted its findings to the House of Representatives on September 16. Following the submission, Speaker Devraj Ghimire instructed the secretariat to forward the report to the government for necessary action.
Subsequently, the government directed the Home Ministry to implement the recommendations made by the parliamentary committee, initiating a process aimed at addressing the misuse of cooperative funds.
