Foreign Minister Rana updates on efforts to repatriate Nepali soldiers from Russian army
KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana has detailed ongoing diplomatic efforts to repatriate Nepali citizens currently serving in the Russian Army. At a meeting with the International and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, she reported that 34 Nepali soldiers had died, and 6 were being held as prisoners in Ukraine. Diplomatic actions are being taken to ensure the safe return of the remaining Nepali nationals.
Additionally, Dr. Rana mentioned that one Nepali individual detained in the Ukraine-Russia conflict is included in a prisoner exchange list. She also highlighted the government's efforts to secure the release of Bipin Joshi, who is currently held hostage by Hamas.
The Minister also provided updates on the evacuation of Nepali citizens from Bangladesh amidst recent unrest, with approximately 1,700 students having returned. Regarding the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), discussions about project implementation are ongoing, with the government focused on making decisions that serve the country’s best interests.
