Federation of Nepali Journalists postpones election program
KATHMANDU: The Central Election Committee has announced that the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) election schedule has been rescheduled. Candidate nominations were supposed to start on September 20 ahead of the elections, which were initially planned for September 28.
The committee announced that all agenda items relating to the election, including the nomination process, had been postponed until further notice. The decision was made in response to Ramesh Bista, the interim president of the FNJ, who requested a temporary postponement of the election schedule.
The postponement comes amid ongoing disputes regarding membership verification within the FNJ, which have affected the convention's progress. This controversy has contributed to significant disruptions in the organization’s leadership transition.
Following the turmoil, Bipul Pokhrel resigned from his position as FNJ President, highlighting the internal challenges faced by the federation. The committee members, including Bhakti Ram Ghimire and others, have formally signed the notice regarding the election delay.
The FNJ is now tasked with addressing the underlying issues before rescheduling the election program. The decision to postpone reflects the need for a more stable environment to ensure a fair electoral process.
As the situation develops, the FNJ aims to resolve the disputes and restore confidence among its members. The federation's leadership will need to work collaboratively to navigate these challenges moving forward.
