Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha emphasizes judicial reforms in Nepal
KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha has articulated the objectives of judicial reforms in Nepal, emphasizing the goals of enhancing fairness, efficiency, and public trust within the legal system. He highlighted the Constitution of Nepal's provisions that ensure the right to justice as a fundamental right and underscored the importance of judicial independence as a cornerstone value. Additionally, Chief Justice Shrestha outlined the Supreme Court of Nepal's pivotal role in safeguarding constitutionally guaranteed rights across various domains, including food security, health rights, and social justice.
Addressing as the Guest of Honour at the "International Conference on Judiciary Across the Borders: 21st Century Challenges and Experiences from the Himalayas and Beyond" in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Chief Justice Shrestha reaffirmed Nepal's commitment to providing access to justice through robust legal and institutional frameworks. He reiterated Nepal's broader aspiration of achieving social transformation and fostering an egalitarian society founded on principles of participation and inclusion. The Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka reported on Chief Justice Shrestha's remarks during the conference, emphasizing Nepal's dedication to advancing justice and societal equity.
During his official visit to Bangladesh from June 6 to June 9, Chief Justice Shrestha engaged in discussions with Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan and other Justices of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. The visit, extended at the invitation of his Bangladeshi counterpart, served as an opportunity for bilateral dialogue and collaboration between the judiciaries of Nepal and Bangladesh on matters of mutual interest and concern.
