Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and Buds 3, which are currently available for preorder and delivery
There is no right way to design a pair of wireless headphones. However, there are also many things that are wrong. Samsung went through a series of hiccups before settling on the in-ear Galaxy Buds we all know and love best. However, in all iterations, the company saw fit to steer clear of Apple's instantly recognizable AirPods. That changed at this week's Unpacked 2024 event, where Samsung showed off the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. Earphones are going through an identity crisis for Apple.
They're not remakes from scratch, but there's enough shared DNA to draw attention — especially to the white models. This includes elongated charging cases similar to the ones that come with the AirPods Pros, but with a transparent top. However, the silver versions are different enough to highlight some key design differences. The biggest aesthetic change is the inclusion of an LED color strip on the stems, henceforth known as the 'Blade'. Blade Lights add a bit of sparkle to the new look, which also features drag and click interactions. After all, there's a reason why some hardware manufacturers use this form factor. Perhaps the biggest drawback of the standard Galaxy Buds is the lack of a control surface. The other notable design difference Here is the blade's appropriate sharp 90-degree angle against AirPods' softer curve.
The pros get silicone ear tip. The standard model does not have them, just like Apple products. The truth is that the taste of headphones is very subjective. Beyond all the standard matters of personal taste, everyone's ears are shaped differently. But for my money, I'd go with the silicone tip for comfort and a secure fit every time. Here's Samsung's take on the matter: "The Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro offer two specially designed options. The Buds 3 Pro are channel-style for those looking for immersive sound, while the Buds 3 are open-style for people who like long-lasting use the device in different situations.
Galaxy Buds 3 Pro has adaptive active noise cancellation with a built-in microphone, as well as siren and voice detection functions. Both versions of the Buds 3 are available for pre-order on Wednesday and will ship on July 24.
