Samsung Just Confirmed Galaxy Ring: Release Date, Feature List, and More
Samsung's next big thing may actually be the Galaxy Ring, a wearable device, when it launches its next flagship next month. It was teased back in January, and now we know exactly when it will be released: around August. The company suddenly announced the role of the ring. The information comes from an impossible source: Samsung itself, although the company has officially issued any version. Plus, there's now a new report detailing new features no one has heard of before, as well as some interesting news about the ring's weight. Let's start with that. The information comes from leakage of South Korea, a super passenger, and was found at a notebook inspection. They said: “The lightest model of Galaxy Ring weighs about 1 gram. It includes a feature that activates your smartphone's camera shutter when you wear the ring and use your finger. The Galaxy Ring is going to be a lot cooler than you think.
Let's break it down. First of all, I completely agree that Ring will be really cool. I was the first reporter to try on a prototype ring in January, and it looks and feels great. But I am skeptical about the weight. I tried a few sizes, and although they were only prototypes, none were significantly lighter than the Oura ring, which weighs between 4 and 6 grams. If any of the prototypes had weighed a quarter of that, I think I’d have noticed.
"Based on extensive investments in health and fitness tracking technology, including the Galaxy Watch and the Samsung Health app, the Galaxy Ring monitors heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen, exercise and sleep, providing users with valuable insights and guidance to improve their health and prosperity - a creature.
Samsung hasn't previously confirmed exactly what the Ring will be used for, so this is big news. Of course, we shouldn't expect this list to be exhaustive: Samsung might keep a few things in reserve, but this list is comprehensive. It also mentions energy scores derived from these measurements. As for the suit itself, The Verge describes it as this: “Samsung is not waiting for Oura to file any patent requirements over his upcoming smart ring. Instead, it is preventively submitted to its own sustaining Oura who sought a 'declaring judgment' that says the galaxy does not violate five Oura patents. The suit alleges that Oura has a pattern of filing patent lawsuits against competitors based on 'features common to virtually all smart rings.' In particular, the case refers to sensors, electronics, batteries and scores based on metrics collected from sensors. The good news is that the choice of smart rings for consumers is getting bigger.
Samsung's next Unpacked event is expected to take place in July, which corresponds to the new details. And it's ambiguous enough that I'm hoping the onsale date will be as early as August 1, or perhaps late July.
