xAI is currently testing a standalone iOS app for its Grok chatbot
Elon Musk's AI venture, xAI, is rolling out a standalone iOS app for its chatbot, Grok. Previously exclusive to users on X (formerly Twitter), the app is now in beta testing and available in select regions, including Australia.
This app features real-time web and X integration, offering capabilities such as text rewriting, summarizing lengthy passages, answering questions, and even generating images from text prompts. The App Store description highlights Grok as “an AI-powered assistant designed to provide accurate, helpful, and inquisitive insights. It can answer questions, create stunning images, and analyze uploaded pictures for a deeper understanding of your environment.”
In addition to the app, xAI is developing a dedicated website, Grok.com, to make the chatbot accessible via the web. For now, the site displays a “coming soon” message when accessed with an xAI account. Initially, Grok was available only to paying X subscribers. However, in November, xAI began testing a free version of the chatbot, expanding access to all users earlier this month.
The company claims its image-generation model is particularly skilled at “photorealistic rendering” and imposes minimal restrictions on content creation. This includes allowing users to generate images featuring public figures or copyrighted material, setting it apart from other AI platforms.
