Instagram calls AI tools for editing appearances and backgrounds in videos with prompts
Instagram head Adam Mosseri has teased a suite of generative AI tools designed to revolutionize video editing on the platform. Powered by Meta’s Movie Gen AI model, the tools promise to provide creators with unprecedented creative control over their content. Imagine being able to change your outfit, the background, or even add a necklace whatever you can think of,” he explained.
The demonstration video highlighted some of these AI-driven editing capabilities, such as changing outfits, altering the environment, adding accessories, or even transforming into an animated version of oneself. In one example, Mosseri’s backdrop shifts to a snowy landscape, while in another, he appears as a puppet-like animated character. Although the previews appear polished, it remains to be seen whether the public-facing tools will deliver similar results.
Meta first introduced the Movie Gen AI model in October, touting its ability to create and edit videos and sounds using simple text commands. At that time, Meta emphasized that the model was not ready for public use. This latest announcement reveals that Instagram creators will soon have access to AI-powered editing tools built on Movie Gen.
This move places Meta in direct competition with other companies that have been making strides in generative AI for video. OpenAIrecently rolled out its Sora AI to select users, while Adobe began allowing testers to experiment with its Firefly video generator in October. With these upcoming features, Instagram aims to empower creators to elevate their content with advanced, intuitive editing options.
