According to a rumour, Apple abandoned its plans to integrate Meta's AI models due to privacy concerns
Days after the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple and Meta were in talks to integrate the latter's AI models, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said the iPhone maker was not planning such a move.
Apple briefly held talks with Meta about the possibility of a partnership back in March, according to Bloomberg. This is the time when Apple talks to many companies to explore its models and equipment integration.
However, the company creates the idea of inserting the Meta AI model to the iPhone, not a privacy problem. The report also noted that a partnership with the social networking company would not be good for Apple's image, as the Cupertino-based company is critical of Meta's privacy practices.
Earlier this month, Apple launched its suite of AI features under the Apple Intelligence brand. In addition, it announced a partnership with OpenAI to let iPhone users call ChatGPT for certain queries.
However, the deal is not exclusive, and Apple has said it is open to integrating different AI models with its devices. At the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the company confirmed that it will work with Google to introduce Gemini.
While Meta may not have the privilege of directly integrating with millions of devices, the company will rely on its apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Messenger, which have billions of users. The company on Monday widely released its Meta AI chatbot to users in India, its largest market globally.
