Matt Mullenweg deactivates WordPress contributor accounts due to purported fork preparations
Matthew Mullenvegs, accomplice by WordPress Automatic and Common Author, recently interrupted several reports of several WordPress.org members of the public, including two people who claimed to start opening an open code WordPress project. This disagreement was caused by the continuous criticism of the WordPress law.
Tensions between Mullenweg and WP Engine escalated after the company filed a lawsuit to block access to critical WordPress resources. He proposed the idea of "federated and independent repositories" that would allow for more decentralized control. Crowd Favorite CEO Karim Marucci echoed similar sentiments.
At the same time, WP Engine said it could provide support for such new projects. While Mullenweg has publicly acknowledged the possibility of launching a new WordPress fork de Valk and Marucchi have not officially announced plans to create a fork. However, De Valk's discussion of shared "mirrors" of themes and plugins was seen as an attempt to decentralize certain aspects of the platform, which Mullenweg sarcastically referred to as "forking."
According to De Valk, simply duplicating the WordPress.org repository would not completely solve the problem of a single entity controlling WordPress updates. He advocates a federated system in which these repositories can share resources and host independent themes and plugins, allowing for greater flexibility and independence.
