Instagram now allows you to schedule DMs
Instagram has quietly introduced a new feature that allows users to schedule direct messages (DMs), with Meta confirming the global rollout to on Monday.
This scheduling option is particularly valuable for creators and businesses looking to time their outreach for maximum impact. It also benefits regular users who want to message friends at specific times, such as coordinating across different time zones or sending timely reminders in the future.
The new feature was initially discovered by social media analyst Lindsey Gamble. To schedule a DM, users simply need to type their message, hold down the send button, and choose a preferred date and time for delivery. Instagram currently allows messages to be scheduled up to 29 days in advance. Once scheduled, a banner appears in the chat indicating the number of pending messages, which remains visible until the scheduled DM is sent.
This update is part of Instagram’s broader push to enhance its messaging capabilities for both everyday users and creators. Recently, the platform introduced location-sharing within DMs, positioning itself as a competitor to tools like Apple’s Find My and Snapchat’s Snap Map. Users can also now personalize their chat experience by assigning nicknames to themselves or others.
For content creators, Instagram has added advanced tools to streamline communication. This functionality makes it easier to manage large volumes of messages effectively. These recent updates reflect Instagram’s ongoing efforts to improve its direct messaging experience, offering new ways for users to connect, organize, and communicate efficiently.
