Police officer killed in motorcycle-car collision on Mahendra Highway in Morang
KATHMANDU: Chitrasagar Rai, a Nepal Police officer, was killed in a traffic accident on the Mahendra Highway near Belbari, Morang. At approximately 6:45 PM on Sunday, there was an accident in Belbari Municipality-8 at the Chisang Bridge.
The Morang Police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bed Prakash Joshi, verified that a car and a motorcycle were involved in the collision. The motorcycle, bearing license plate Pra 1-02-044 Pa 4996, was moving in the opposite way from the automobile, which had registration plate Pra 3-01-024 Cha 0734.
Rai, 32, was assigned to the temporary police post at Nadaha, Sunsari. Rai was a police policeman originally from Silichong Rural Municipality-2 in Sankhuwasabha. He was the motorcycle rider in the collision and was critically hurt.
Rai was transferred to Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar for emergency treatment. He was proclaimed dead at the hospital upon arrival, nevertheless, in spite of the efforts of the medical team. His body has been retained at the hospital pending a post-mortem examination.
Driver Dulal Miya, 30, of Sundar Haraincha Municipality-9 in Morang, was driving the vehicle in question when it was involved in the collision. As part of their investigation, police detained the car after seeing the incident and arrested Miya.
