Death toll rises to 3 in Lalitpur tin shed fire tragedy
KATHMANDU: The death toll from a fire that engulfed a tin shed in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-17, Bafal, has risen to three as the mother succumbed to her burn injuries on Monday. The tragic incident initially claimed the lives of two daughters, followed by their mother's demise. The fire, which occurred on May 5 in the tin shed where Mobil was stored, resulted in injuries to five members of the Sanjay Giri family.
Sanjay Giri's family members were rushed to KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Gwarko for treatment after sustaining injuries in the blaze. Sadly, the following day, the two daughters, eight-year-old Priya and three-year-old Alisha Giri, succumbed to their injuries. The recent passing of Sanjay's wife, 32-year-old Rupa Giri, while undergoing treatment, brings the total number of fatalities to three, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Naresh Raj Subedi at the District Police Range, Lalitpur.
Sanjay Giri, who also suffered injuries in the fire, remains hospitalized and is currently under medical care, receiving assistance such as ventilator support. Meanwhile, their nephew, 15-year-old Neet Giri, is undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the tragic incident. The community mourns the loss of lives and offers support to the grieving family during this difficult time.
