Death toll in Lalitpur tin shed fire reaches 4
KATHMANDU: The death toll from the tin shed fire incident in Lalitpur has risen to four, following the death of Sanjay Giri on Saturday. Giri, who was critically injured in the fire that erupted on May 6 in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-17, passed away while on a ventilator at KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital. His wife, Rupa Giri, had succumbed to her injuries on May 13, and their two daughters, 8-year-old Priya and 3-year-old Alisha, died the day after they were injured.
The fire, which broke out in a tin shed used for storing Mobil, injured Sanjay and five other family members. The District Police Range in Lalitpur confirmed the fatalities. Sanjay’s wife and daughters had been among those severely affected, with the daughters passing away shortly after the incident and Rupa following days later.
Sanjay's nephew, 15-year-old Neet Giri, was also injured in the blaze but is currently reported to be in stable condition while undergoing treatment. The tragic incident has deeply affected the Giri family, with multiple losses and ongoing medical care for the survivors.
